The perfume guide

How to Choose a Perfume

Fragrance is personal, but choosing one does not have to feel complicated.

Begin with a feeling

Start with how you would like your fragrance to feel: bright and easy, soft and floral, warm and comforting, or grounded in woods.

Think about the moments you want to wear it. Something for everyday may feel different from something you reach for in the evening. A feeling is enough to give you a direction; you do not need to know every note.

Notice the notes you return to

Notice the scents you already enjoy in flowers, fruit, herbs, wood, or the things around you. A familiar note can be a useful place to start.

Citrus and green notes often feel fresh; florals can range from airy to full; vanilla and amber bring warmth; woods add depth. These are broad starting points. The way notes are combined matters more than any one ingredient.

Choose how you wear it

The format changes how you apply your fragrance and how it fits into your day. Choose the one that feels easiest to use.

Perfume oil roller

Rolled onto a small area of skin. Often a quieter way to wear fragrance, with control over where you apply it.

A gentle reminder

Give it time on skin

Let the fragrance move through its opening, heart, and dry-down before deciding.

What to notice as it settles

Try a little on skin and return to it as the first impression settles. The opening is what you notice first. The heart is the fuller scent that follows. The dry-down is the softer impression that stays with you later.

A fragrance can smell different on skin than on a paper strip. Give yourself time to notice how it changes before deciding whether it feels right.
